How do Foundations Impact the Community? By A. Ronald Berryman

Community foundations are tax-exempt charitable organizations created by and for the people of our communities throughout the United States. They enable citizens with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the programs for whom they have an interest. Also they can support these issues immediately or through legacy planning i.e. wills or estate plans.

They are typically local organizations staffed by people from the community and led by a local board of trustees. These individuals have an in-depth knowledge of the issues, opportunities and resources that shape the community, enabling them to play a key role in solving community problems, while helping donors learn about local needs in order to make their giving as effective as possible. Several statements reported herein were cited from information retrieved from the Council on Foundations and the Community Foundations of America.

These foundations can provide personalized service, helping individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations achieve their charitable and financial goals by offering tools and resources that make giving easy, flexible and effective. Donors can create personal legacies by way of named funds. These foundations play a key role in addressing community needs, now and in the future. These foundations act as community catalysts, brining diverse voices and groups together to address local issues,

Through grant programs and scholarship funds our Kappa Alpha Psi Foundations can help local chapters,  local fraternity foundations along with community based organizations that share in our mission create opportunities that will provide these grant programs and scholarship funds to enable students across the nation to achieve their educational goals. We encourage all of our membership and the general community to be part of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation family.
